I wanted a red cabrio until I saw that it was more orange then red. Maybe getting a 2nd set of panels and getting them painted true red would be my way of getting what I really wanted.

My North Carolina registration doesn't have any color listed and no place to list it.

the tridion color, but I'm curious as to what the registration will show (my temp insurance card from Allstate says 'smart'). As long as the VIN matches I guess it won't matter. Would like to see the '09 medium-gray shade thats already been mentioned as a new color as a possible swap down the road although I'm pretty happy with the silver metallic.

Katherine - the 450 model front panel doesn't use latches. . . it has clips that must be released...

In Colorado(for the state patrol at least) troopers wont write you a ticket for it. We will just ask you to change it with the courthouse.
When you register your car, you are suppose to list the dominant color of the car, so if you have a white smart with silver cell, you would list White as the color. When you change the panels you should change the color with the Clerk and Recorder.

think of it this way.

If the color of the car is different than the registration color listed, thats "probable cause" to stop the car....to the trooper the plate could have been stolen. Much less of a hassle to just change the color.

Don't know about where you live, but in FL the Tridion color is the color listed on the title. Registration doesn't have a color IIRC. Therefore on my red/black Passion coupe it is listed as "black". So that means there are only two colors of smarts in FL - black and silver~!
