Parking Accidents

Seeing as the Smart is as small as it is, it usually will pull right up in a parking space, thus making it look like it isnt even there because its not as long as other cars. My question is then, would that increase damage say if someone was running late and tried to swing into your smarts space not realizing it was there and hitting it. Anyone else feel this is a problem or do you just not pull all the way into a space or..?

I usually only pull in as far as the vehicles on either side?

Howdy

I make it a point to only pull into a parking space as far as the vehicles on either side, just so someone "in a rush" doesn't do just as you described?

It also gives a "kick" to the parkers beside me when they see that I am only taking up half a space?

I personally feel it could be a big issue, I park so my rear bumper is even with the cars around me. Takes a couple of days to get used to parking by the rear of the car instead of the front, but now I have trouble parking my wifes minivan!

After years of losing my MX-5 in various parking lots, I've learned the best option is to leave the back parallel with most cars, with the empty space to the front of the parking space.

where I usually park, its pretty obvious that there is a smart in the space! ;)

but if I had to park near adjacent cars I indeed would not pull all the way up.

Also if you pull all the way in it is possible to be blocked in by some cretin driving a crew cab heavy duty pickup that can't park straight.

LMAO

I park my smart parallel to other cars on the parking so that they would see my car.

I've learned from motorcycle experience that you do NOT pull all the way in for that very reason. I myself had gone to swing into an parking spot, not in a hurry, but around a HUGE SUV only to find I almost ran over someone's bike. We always park our bike in the rear of the spot. Thanks for bring this to my attention. We'll be keeping it in mind when we get ours.
