Passenger Air Bag?

Does anyone know if this can be disable? My co-workers are interested in one but was not sure if they can put a child on the front seat with the airbag engaged.

It automatically disables. The passenger seat has a weight sensor in it, if the passenger is too light, the airbag is disabled.

Garage
Owners manual, pg 274

Passenger front air bag off indicator lamp

Illuminates when the passenger front air bag is deactivated:
•with the ignition switched on and if OCS senses that the passenger seat occupant is classified as being up to or less than the weight of a typical 12monthold child in a standard child restraint.
•with the ignition switched on, if the OCS senses that the passenger seat is not occupied.Goes out:
•after approximately 4 seconds if the OCS senses that the passenger seat is occupied with a person with the weight of a typical adult or someone larger than a small individual.
Hope this helps.

My airbag automatically disables even when I have my two year old and his car seat in. If the threshold is supposed to be the "average 12 mo old", then them buggers must be growing them HUGE across the big pond!

I could swear my manual said 120 lbs was the cutoff... this is the 2008 smart Passion that I'm talking about. Any weight < 120 lbs and the airbag is off, confirmed by the "passenger airbag off" light.

I think that number is a bit high. Otherwise, many people, especially females would be unprotected due to being "underweight".
