Passion sound system upgraded speakers

I opted for the upgraded speakers after hearing the system that came with my Passion Coupe (single CD/ AM-FM).
They are two tweeters and mid range speakers that fit into the current speaker enclosure in the doors. Did not opt for the subwoofer as I thought it might be too much bass for my dog to stand (she'll be travelling in the cargo area).
Any comments as to whether its worth the price (ie. is there an audible difference between the stock speakers and the upgraded ones)?

Subwoofer is fine, not overpowering at all. I have the factory upgrade, tweeters by the windshield, better speakers in the doors and the sub under the driver's seat.

It is much better than the standard setup I heard at the smart house.

The stock system only comes with two speakers and if you want the upgraded system it isnt pick and choose. You get 5 or 2. The subwoofer is under the drivers seat and it seems to a good replacement for some nice sized woofers, not a sub thats pounds the car into the pavement. SP, could you take a pic of the tweeter locations. I thought that what they did was just put better mid woofers with dome tweeters in the same door enclosure.

As a side note: After test driving a cabrio this weekend with the roof and & down, I decided I need two additional speakers installed in the rear above the luggage level like someone else did here recently. Music is important to me so I'm going to invest in a more well rounded sound but I understand that dogs might not like that. Also, I decided that I love the look of the dash so I'm not going to replace it with a in-dash GPS system. Instead I am going to have one hard wired on top of the dash board so it looks like the Euro smarts. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Thanks, Regina

I don't think in dash tweeters are an option for the dealer installed speaker upgrade, although it would be nice to have 'em out front. Guess I'll wait for the parts to come in and if it sounds too tinny without the subwoofer, then i'll pony up the cash and put some ear mufflers on the dog.

I didn't think much of the smart radio 10 when I test drove last weekend. I didn't think the stereo sounded very good, but I also didn't have the other radio to compare it too. Anybody else notice a significant difference for the price??? ($350)

I don't think I'm understanding this completely. From what I'd gathered, the standard sound system on the Passion has two speakers. The upgraded system has a MP3 compatible CD changer; and the Cabrio gets two more speakers. This is what Smart's Build Your Fortwo page suggests (Smart's home page link). The row for Smart Sound system (two tweeters and two mid-range woofers) indicates "N/A" for both the Pure and Passion Coupe. Yet, on the Options tab, the Smart Premium Sound System appears to contain the Smart Sound System speakers (two tweeters and two mid-range woofers).

Is the equipment chart between the three models wrong (i.e., should they list the Smart Sound System as optional)? Or are they just saying you can't get the speakers as a stand alone option. (If so, why bother listing it separately from the Smart premium radio.)

If there is a difference in the speakers, then I'd be interested in the premium package; otherwise, I have no use for a stacker with the iPod connector in the glove box.

Hi OS-4-2
I'll let you know
The guys at Smartcenter SFO didn't have too much info on these options last thursday so I gambled and ordered it anyway. When it comes in and is installed, I'll post. My guess is that it should be an improvement.

Pure comes with nothing, but the speakers are there. Passion gets the Radio 9 and of course the two speakers. Cabrio gets it all. But where I am confused is with the options, I thought earlier it was possible to get the upgraded 5 speaker system without getting the Radio 10. But now on the configurator its only available as a package. I really dont have a need for 6 disks as I will be using my ipod.

But the configurator seems to be off, the pod instruments are no longer an option on the configurator. Methinks something is screwy!

I think it is possible to get the upgraded CD player in the Passion without the 5 speaker package, perhaps thats the confusion?

In the passion you can either upgrade just the dash unit to the 6 CD mp3 capable unit for $150 or you can upgrade both the unit and to the 5 speakers in the Smart Premium Sound Package for $350.

And, the pod instruments are available - just don't select leather seats first (that's the configurator bug I spoke of a few days ago)
