Are people really paying over MSRP for a right now car?

I actually picked up my Pure prior to my reservation number. My car is a PURE and was on the lot because nobody wanted it without most of the basic amenitites. For me it was perfect because I am stripping down the car, and am building a very custom smart.

Last week I got a call for another orphan which I gave to my friend. Now I have one more car coming in, are people really paying over MSRP right now to get a SMART? Just curious, because I would probably give it to one of the forum members here if ya asked.

Garage
Well, if you don't buy it, the dealer sells it, possibly for a profit. And not likely for a charity...

Depending on the dealer, people are paying for add-ons to orphans. The MSRP for the base car should remain the cost of the car BUT the dealer can add any extras on they want after the car gets reserved. Again, depending on the dealer you can have those things removed but I'd guess most have a take it or leave it attitude on them.

You can't raffle your spot.

And the China Earthquake is a natural phenomenon. It doesn't accept money, nor does it have pockets in which to keep any money it had.

If you want to donate money, donate to a local charity. Help out at a food bank or homeless shelter locally. Changing things locally ultimately changes thing globally. I'm far less concerned about starving children in a foreign country than I am about starving children where I live.

Yellow Passion at Mitsubishi dealership is a $15K car and they're asking $21K. It's got 300 miles on it.

I admire the way the local Smart dealers are doing things. I remember when Chrysler put out the rule to their dealers that the Viper or the Prowler couldn't be sold for over sticker, so all the Vipers and Prowlers were "sold" to managers, left on the floor and then sold for thousands over invoice to customers who didn't realize they were buying a "used" car.

Meat.

Of coure I can raffle my spot. I walked in my friend that was NOT a reservation holder and had him take delivery of the car. I can do it once, I'll do it again. Simple.

Where I'd like to donate the money is my perogative, and as you said changing things locally will change things globally. Now how do you know what is local to ME? I can define my heritage as local. And yes you can provide relief:

Holding a raffle and accepting money for your spot is not the same as just transferring ownership at the time of the sale. Hope you have good lawyer on retainer! On the otherhand, if you take possesion of the car, and hold a raffle afterwards...that should work - but of course you may loss money - but at least its for a good cause!
