Performance Mods

Hi All

I just removed my resonator box. Played around trying to get it out of my 2011 Passion in one piece to no avail, so as others have done I cut it out in two pieces. No worries as it will never go back in . Installed the K& N Air Filter as well as a Blue Silicone Intake Hose. Now to clean the air filter it will be a snap to get it in and out. Another bounus with the Resonator Box out I can clearly see the bolts that hold the heat shield on so it will make it pretty easy for me tomorrow when I install my 4 tip Carlsson exhaust. I don't notice any differance in the noise level with the Intake Hose unless I'm going up hill and it drops into 4th and then its a little loud.

I drove it to work today (70 miles ) and I realy at this point can't feel any real performance increase. May be when I put the Carlsson Exhaust on tomorrow it will make a differance ?

If I had of sucked it up from the get-go and just cut the box from the start I could of done the whole install in an hour instead of the 3+ hours that it took me !

As stated in many posts CUT THE BOX.

As you stated, the only real advantage of the new intake hose is the ease of cleaning the filter.

But

Since it took you 3 hours to do that, you could have cleaned that filter about 9 times (90,000 miles) for the time you spent

I stand corrected ( I think ) ! I drove home a different way this morning and I was on some nice back roads with wide open sweepers and lots of ups and downs, driving a little more aggressive then on the supper slab and wow there is a difference. It stays quite ( unless going up a hill or dropping down a gear )but definitely pulls harder and just seems to go faster ? Could very well be a placebo effect. Never really know unless I run it on a dyno, with a before and after reading .

The main thing is I'M a happy camper with the mods to date.

Like I wrote in another thread, I don't think it gives any more power, however, I believe it shifts the power band a bit to the left. I've been driving the mod over a year and I would estimate the power band is about 500rpm to the left on the lower side (up to about 4000rpm). IE, the torque you had at 4000 is now there at 3500, etc.

I did it the other way around and got an exhaust first. The exhaust definitely increased high end power, but I lost some on the low end.

I then cut the resonator out and did the same "low budget cold air intake" mod as you. I got a deeper exhaust note and the low end power improved. My favorite part was the 1.5mpg increase I saw on the last tank and consecutive tanks.

Put the Carlsson 4 Tip Exhaust on to-day and man-o-man she sounds good. There was no way I was going to get that heat shield off or loose with the resonator still installed, so that was a plus cutting that out . Pretty easy install, took about 2 hours including installing the new lower panel that came with it. Only small problem was that I had to drill holes for the push-pins in the new panel and I had to borrow a pop rivet gun to install the new supports for the skirt .
