Evilbean, that's great news! It's probably a drag having to wait as long as till the end of August, but at least it's not a year! And you're healthy! Be well, and enjoy the new car!

Evilbean,
Do you have the ability to buy replacement insurance when you buy a new car? That is a common option in British Columbia and is worth every penny. My son totalled my near new car on Dec. 22 and I had a cheque for the replacement cost of a new car by December 29th (even during the Christmas breaks)! I was amazed and thrilled by this option and the lack of hassle.

The writer of the article seemed more concerned about how the car fared in an accident than how the driver did. Personally, I'm more concerned about whether the car's occupants can be repaired after an accident than whether the car can be repaired.

Judging from the bent wheel it was a little more than a "glancing blow"

That's exactly what I thought, you don't bend a rim like that with a "glancing blow". I think there is a lot more to this story than is being told. Sounds like someone who likes smart bashing to me. Obviously an idiot.

If you look at the tires on your car, there is a significant amount of rubber extending out past the rim providing a lot of protection for the bead-area. A "glancing blow" would have scuffed the crap out of the sidewall, but little else. To bend the wheel like that I think it would have taken a more direct hit..... More like the guy dropped his IPOD and as he bent over to pick it up, he swerved into the curb.

Whoever is brave enough I am sure will email him, that story doesnt add up.. Speed? at what angle, what exactly the curb looks like?
Aside from that, the car looks far from "totalled"
I found the last line humourous,
"British has decided that cars are too dangerous. From here on out, he’s sticking to his motorbikes."
What a wingnut!
It looks like anyone who wants a cheap repairable car, there is one in Dallas.

The dangling "hood panel" makes it look worse than it is. My Samrt looks like its wrecked every time I take that panel off. I hate that strap!

If you hit a curb and a telephone pole your gonna bend something.
