Amazing.... Glad you are ok. I hope you get another smart soon. Your car is almost identical to mine Black/Red, but I have a silver cell.

Evil, I join the crowd is saying that I'm glad you're ok, with your being one of the first to have this happen. Hope you get a new one real soon.

I found it interesting how the RR rim broke the spokes from the rim. Wonder if that was a direct impact or high G loading that caused that. Makes me wonder about the durability of this rim design. But we'll probably never know since it would have had to have been observed to see the exact sequences.

Yes! Now we need the video! Hurry up Bean and get us the video ;). I'll second the fact that we're glad you're OK. For a car that has rolled several times that looks really good. Ive seen other rolled cars and they generally don't look that happy. It's a great testiment to the trideon cell.

The only thing I've been worried about in a crash is the roof shattering all over me. With yours only cracking, I'm even more confident in my car.

PS as good as your car looks, it does make me a bit sad to see it totalled--I have a black/black/red too

Well I must say, that car did save your life!

Thank you for sharing your story with us and even yesterday your story ran through my head as I thought about how important it is to properly where the seat belt in the smart fortwo.

Bean,
I know how shaken one can get after surviving an accident. I was involved in a crash when I was 16 years old going through a bridge when a guy skid on ice, ran into the back side of my car with his gargabe truck, flipped my it in the air and landed on the guard railing. My car was 1/2 dangling over the water and 1/2 on the bridge... I crawled to get myself out through the broken windshield. I didnt care that I just had an accident! Adrenaline is so powerful!!!!!

Thid being said, I am so glad that that you are ok and alive! I am amazed at this little car and so glad it kept you protected. Man, if I were you, I would NEVER want to drive anything else from that point on in my life!!!

Thank you for the picture and please keep us updated on how the insurance is handled through in the quest of finding you another Smartie... Thanks for sharing your tragic experience with us...

Rims are designed to crush and absorb impact-part of the overall safety system. The main reason I bought the tire and wheel warranty here in the land of potholes.

Bean you are very lucky. Glad you are OK.

Nothing, I mean absolutely nothing, has increased my confidence in this car than these photos. I am completely shocked at how little damage was experienced from the accident as described. This is really impressive!

Glad to hear you are well, I hope someone from Smart reads these messages and figures out a way to get you a replacement right away.

Interesting observation, I'd like to do some more research into that wheel design. If anyone has a drawing of the wheel, I will make a solid model and do a stress analysis on it for the forum.

Evil, glad you came through this OK. Now you have the rest of your life to wait for a new smart!

evil, glad your ok. it's good to see the car worked as designed. I have seen many vehicles in the auto repair biz, that even with one roll , the occupant/s weren't so lucky. There is a european site that shows the after effects of a collision between a Ferrari and a smart. The Ferrari has the whole length of the pass side pushed in 3 ft. , while the smart is upside down in a shallow ditch, but whole and intact with little visible damage.
