Great news

I too was told to expect mine in a few weeks and I was target for delivery at the end of the year. The dealer told me that they are coming in sooner.

I reserved mine in July 2007 and picked mine in March 2008. I really love my little car. I think it is worth the wait.

We should just order it from NYC...then pickup...drive home after a few days...then if we have any issues bring it to the closest smart center to home! then you can receive it 2x earlier! hmmm?

The reservation system requires local information. My reservation was made by my brother (who picked an orphan up in February) and the local sc was greatly relieved that I too was local to their dealership so there weren't delivery complications.

Although it's annoying, the fact is that smart (and PAG) is (are) intentionally directing production to regions that they feel will have the largest market impact. It's not personal, it's business.

Happy motoring,

Thanks guys. For everyone waiting, just hang in there and know its certainly worth the wait! I feel badly that I got my car so soon, I mean don't get me wrong, I'm ecstatic, but it do feel badly hearing how long the wait times are for other people on the forum. Given that the only way we differ in geographically, it doesn't seem like its fair, if that is indeed the reason for the extended wait times in other regions.

yea, it IS a great looking smart!!! one of my personal choices to cofigure, when i do.

as for NYC getting preferential treatment, even though i started a thread on that very subject, i don't think they are....well, sort and here's a couple factors to consider:

1) there are SEVEN dealers, all within a close proximity to NYC.

2) with the wait times as short as they are, that area can't possibly be selling as many smarts per capita as other areas in the US.

so MORE dealers and LESS sales EQUALS a very short WAITING PERIOD! sorry, not anyones fault in NYC or the surrounding areas. i'm certainly NOT upset with the folks who have taken delivery in 6-8 months. just disappointed in smartUSA that they put THAT many dealers in such a small area from the get-go instead of waiting to see how well they would sell.

now they have other areas or should i say MOST of the US on a 18-22 month wait and NYC is still getting their cars in 6-8 months.

FAIR? no, but no ones fault but smartUSA's.......sorry for the 'highjack', carry on.

like i said, "rotate"......GREAT LOOKING SMART!

Oh, I fully understand the business rationale. Get the car into New York and Los Angeles ASAP, where it has the most visibility. Still doesn't tick me off any less.

I'm in Rhode Island. We have one dealer. There are two north of Boston. So my dealer is selling not only to RI but also to southern MA as well as eastern CT. Pretty big area with a lot of people in it.

(And it's even worse if you're out in East Yabib, Iowa, or some other state where the nearest dealer is 100+ miles away and your wait is even LONGER, more like 18 months or more. At least my dealer is only about 7 miles away.)

Perhaps it is the number of dealerships within a close proximity to my house.

So I went through my first tank of gas, I was down to 2 bars at around 200 miles. Filled up the car, and when the pump clicked I got back in, only to discover that the display said it was one less bar than full. Thinking it must have just clicked early I went out to pump more. Well you all know what happened next, after a few tries there was gas spilling out the side of my car.

I get back in the car, now knowing that the tank is as full as possible, and the gauge is still one bar less than full. A little annoyed, I calculated my milage, and, although this in not accurate because I way overfilled, factoring that in, I got about 28 MPG. But, this was the first tank, I got stuck in decent traffic in NYC, I was pushing the car a decent amount on the interstate, and I had the A/C on the entire time, so we'll see what the next tank has to offer.

Anyone else have the same problem with the gas gauge not going to full? Other than that the car has been a blast!
