Pine sap on rag top

Help, what will take pine sap off of the top of my convertible? Any suggestions?

Dang! The closest and most innocuous solvent is turpentine.

Vaseline. Use a dollop, let it soak, wash it off with soap & water.

WD40. Let it soak, sash it off with soap & water. I've heard you should wash it off with vinegar, but vinegar is really bad for the fabric.

Before using either of these, you should check to make sure it doesn't harm the top in an inconspicuous (on a Smart?) area.

Meat.

A bit of vegetable oil or PAM cooking spray should take that off. But again, try it first on an inconspicuous spot for color-fastness.

Pages 227 and 230 of the owners manual have cleaning information for the cabrio top.

Quote:
Car shampoo concentrate, soft top cleaner, impregnation spray.
Quote:
smart recommends that you use an approved car shampoo concentrate and soft top cleaner.
> "Dry clean" the vehicle first.
> Wash the soft top off using a soft brush or sponge and plenty of lukewarm water.
> Then rinse thoroughly with clear water.

Thanks to everyone who donated a suggestion(s) for getting pine sap off my convertible top. I'm sure I'll have the cleanest cover in Florida.

Again, thanks.

WOW, sometimes ya can get lucky with the SEARCH function! Went looking for this thread because I remembered it from way back then ... two months before I took delivery.
I looked it up because, unfortunately I got some pine sap on mine. I wish Susie had followed up on her results.

Getting Pine Sap on the Top sure beats getting it on the interior.
