We have had our Passion nearly a week with no PS. I agree, it is really not noticeable. Lack of PS was a concern of ours as well, but the forum is correct the car is so light and with skinny tires you really do not notice it. My wife has indicated that only time she notices it is when backing out of the drive, coming to a stop and then turning to head out.

I remember the 69 Cadillac that I learned to drive with. It didn't have power steering. Seems the smart is a lot easier to drive w/o power steering than that best was. I wasn't taking any chances and I went with the power steering option.

The nice thing is that it seems to work either way. I haven't seen anybody sorry about the one they are driving and wish they could switch. That's all good!

My smart does not have the power assisted steering.
I have two other cars with power steering and I can't tell the difference between them.
I actually like the smart better with out the power steering, is not a heavy car and even with a load of groceries and a passenger I did have any issues.

I feel that I have better control of the car and feel of the road.

I drove my 1993 Toyota MR2 without power steering - so I don't see why I need one on my smartie...

I have the power steering with my leather package. Its electric power assist not the hydraulic power steering you may be used to. I still feel the road, the car is easy to park. I would not turn down the leather package just because you hate power steering, this is something quite different.

Spot on, this is not at all over boosted dull steering.

Different.

Spdicky and Smartazz are right. The PS on the Smart car is nothing like anything you have driven before. And the leather is nice.

Worth the bucks.
