power steering or no power steering - that is the question

does a car that only weighs 1650 lb and only has a wheelbase of just a tad over 6' even need power steering? if you're driving a smart WITHOUT the power steering option do you regret your decision?

I didn't get the power steering and under normal circumstances you can't really tell. My wife however can tell as she likes to turn the wheels while the car is not moving (which can damage the steering components).

I think its just fine without the power steering.

Nobody's talking

Every thread I've read on the subject confirms that the people with power steering are happy and the people without power steering are happy. I have yet to read any regrets from either camp. I ended up without because that's the way my orphan was offered. I was nervous at first but test drove it around a parking lot and decided it actually was a bit more fun to drive without. I like the more positive feel of the steering wheel and the slow speed turning is just not that much more difficult than my other cars with power steering. So if you want to save a few bucks go without. If you want to drive one handed while parallel parking then go with.

I agree with both statements
I have a Passion with no power steering and I can't tell the difference.
Except I can't steer with one finger

just go all out and get the convenience package w/the leather seats/power steering and such.. its not that much more, and what, 15.00 on your monthly payment (assuming 5 yr loan) its worth it.

Confirming: No power steering and no regrets here.

If stopped, it does require a grip on the wheel to turn. If you don't like that, then you need power steering.
I try not to turn the wheel when stationary, because (I feel) it causes unnecessary stress on steering components and tires (whether or not you have power steering).

Just my .02, but I'm not into a 5 year loan on anything, much less a car with a 2 year warranty.

Wish to add the 45/55% fore/aft weight distribution to the equation...
