Power steering Yes/No?

Our smart does not have power steering and both my husband and I agree that it really does not need it. We've driven smarts with power steering as well.

We were just wondering how many out there opted to not get power steering. If you don’t have it are you happy that you don’t have it? If you had to do it over again would you get power steering? And if you have power steering are you happy with it?

I do not have it, and I love my smart. I don't even realize that I don't have it. Parking it w/o PS is very easy still!

I don't have it on my orphan, but I ordered it on our new Smart because I am a lazy slothful couch potato and thought I would enjoy having it, but now I am having second thoughts because I really do love my little tomato colored smart. So now I am thinking I will orphan the 2009 and just keep happily driving around without the power steering with the same big smile on my face that I have had on for almost a year. ......but I did test drive one with ps and it worked great. Felt good slow and at speed and it did make parallel parking a bit easier. So maybe it should just be an economic decision for those who are unsure. If money is no object go for it.

My orphan came with it, so I don't know what it would be to not have it. I like the way it steers.

I have power steering and I like. It has a lot of road feel and is not over-boosted. It really feels like manual steering and it is very direct.

I was on the fence on whether I wanted to order it or not. One salesman said you dont need it, another said its alot nicer to have it. Luckily the orphan I got had the comfort package. When its rolled in with the leather, heated seats, etc, it seems like a better deal than $450 just for the PS. When I get to configure my reservation car, I will chose the comfort package again. Never thought I'd like heated seats butt I'm lovin' them!

I never liked power steering. I think it makes a car feel "squirrely" at highway speeds, like I'm not actually in control of the car. Without power steering, I actually feel like *I'm* controlling where the car goes. It's really not a big deal when parking a car, either; the trick w/o power steering is to *slightly* move the car (I'm talking, like, an inch) while turning the wheel. If you're parallel-parking a large car w/o power steering--and you're doing it on a daily basis--I can see where it would get tiring. But on a car this small, I didn't see the need to order it on my passion (which arrives in a few weeks). Just another expense, and another thing to break down, and another thing to add unneeded weight to the car...

I got it and like it - no "squirrely" feelings that I can detect at highway speeds. You probably don't really need it but I actually ordered it because a cousin who deals in cars told me that, in general, it increases resale value. BTW, he mostly deals in vintage cars and Ferraris so what does he know about p/s anyway.
