Power/Transmission/Guages???

Hello,

I was reading that you have to pay additional for the clock and tachometer gauges on the dash. I know there is a clock on the radio face, so you dont really need that but how about the tach? I can see using the paddle shifters to squeeze more rpm's but should you need to? Especially if your from the north bay like me with a lot of hills.

I know the car is not is not a rocket so is there must be a reason for the paddle shifter. If anyone has drivin one, how does the car perform in auto mode? Do you think you would find the need to hold gears for more power? If so i could see myself getting the tach. Like any new car i expect there to be a rev-limiter? Are you guys planning on getting the guages? If so why or why not?

Yes, just like to know what is going on, shift light is the best way to pull the next gear but the tach can alert you to problems.

I thought I read somewhere that someone said that there isn't a temp gauge, just a light? I thought I seen a temp reading in the LCD display. Is there a temp gauge?

I think that temp is outside temperature.

I think the versions we drove on the smart tour had a fuel gauge to the left and a temp gauge to the right. But it looks as though the US version has a fuel gauge along the bottom of the display. I would have preferred both too.

Pod gauges.

Pod gauges are for resale only. They make the car look like like a Smart.

The pod tach is too small, and the radio already has a clock.

As for the trans in auto (D), read the reviews on this site. I haven't driven the new 2008, but the trans in the 2007 euro model, IMO, sucks.

The power in the euro 451 was more than enough, and the car handled beautifully.

Tach and Clock

I'm trying to decide if I should get these or not. My main concern is that they seem like they they will be in the way especially if I use the new GPS system that I bought. Anyone have any thoughts on this? thanks

i'm sure you can fit your GPS somewhere with the tach/clock. this video show both the GPS and tach/clock combo on the dash.

Remember that the dashboard display also indicates shift points with an up and down arrow to assist when in manual mode.

Paddle shifters are great for smoothing out the tranny. Better that way then letting the car do it by itself.

Read this interesting review from the people that made this video. Some points brought up about shifting methods contradict what we have heard so far.
