MHD = Micro Hybrid Drive.
This is a new system that shuts down the engine when you come to a stop and apply the brakes. As soon as you put your foot onto the accelerator the engine starts up. Not really a Hybrid but an increase in miles per gallon. This will not be available in the US.
If you go to the German Smart web site it gives you a better explanation.
Or go to Google and search for Micro Hybrid Drive
2009 models will be different and I expect them to cost a couple grand more due to added MHD, other features, falling dollar (since mid 2007) and other factors.
If the prices change, it'll only be 2-4%, and if you've already configured it and got the purchase price that's the price you'll pay.
I don't expect that the price of the Smart will jump thousands, but it may bump up a couple hundred.

The smart center says they have heard it is coming to the us in 2010. Be ready.
edit: Thought I hit quote. Fixed it.

Is is true that once I confirgure my SMART and get a price, that price is locked-in although I do not get the car for 18 months later?
I asked the dealer. They told me the price is locked in. On my reservation confirmation it states in bold letters, this is not an purchase agreement.So who knows. IMHO, i would pay more for a vastly better transmission, along the lines of VW 6 speed DSG.

If your dealer said the price is locked in after reservation, it must be true, right?
Get that in writing!
