I'm having a bit of hard time and sitting on fence about what version of the car I want to configure. I was wondering how many of you out there have a Pure and are you happy with the less blingged version. I've considered cost to own with insurance and fuel cost a year and concluded I could get a blingged out Passion and save 900 a year or a Pure with AC, radio, power steering, security and save 1380 a year vs what I own now. I like the Pure for it's basicness but am second guessing weather or not haveing power windows and side mirrors will bug me. I've got these features on my current car and I hardly ever adjust side mirrors or even role down window. I'm a bit leary of manual windows because of experience with a car I once had that had manual window that would creep down from road vibration and cause wind noise. I would appreaciate input you guys may have for me.
im waiting on my passion. for the little extra money i think its worth it, not to mention resell value would be more and probably easier to sell the passion if needed.
I have the Pure version of the Fortwo. I went for the less expensive version since I am also paying for my Dad's 2007 Ford Focus and wanted lower monthly payments for my car. Since I was driving a 1996 Nissan pickup that did not have power windows or a radio, it was easy to adjust to not having power windows on the Fortwo. I started out with no radio but another member of this forum sold me theirs for a low price. It is neat having a remote for the locks. I did not have AC on my truck or my fortwo. It might have been nice but I was going for a lower price. I went with the basics. I really enjoy my little car. It is a lot of fun to drive. If the circumstances were different, I would have added more things to it but I think I would have gone with the Pure anyway. This is just my opinion. Perhaps there are others who bought a Pure. At the meet and greet at MCP, I think mine was the only pure. There was not that many differences from the Passion version.
I originally had reserved an almost bare bones Pure w/A/C & radio only but configed a more nicely optioned Passion when the time came. For me, it seemed like the "Smart" thing to do. A lot of the options I like are standard on the Passion - it ended up being a couple grand more, but well worth it and still not totally out of line.
Have 8,800mi on our Pure. Windows do not come down by themselves. Manual windows don't bother me and the reach over to roll down the passenger is easy. You get no paddle shifters on the Pure but then again if you want to shift manual you reach down just like a real stick shift. Judging by the ebay sales if you want the stock radio they go for less than $100 and it's real easy to install and save like $300 over having it factory installed. Steel wheels with wheel covers no complaints there and they seem to hide the brake dust better. You do not need power steering in this car save the money you can easily turn the wheels at any speed. Manual mirrors don't bother me either. We have a cabrio on order for the soft top and we are keeping the Pure too. I would get a pure/cabrio if they made one...LOL
If you want the extras the Passion is the way to go; I wanted Alloy wheels and the Paroramic see through roof and the power locks etc so I went Passion as some options arent available.
Add standard features on a Passion to a Pure didn't make much sense to me

I was planning on getting the radio factory installed along with A/C, secuirty, and power stearing. I've seen the Pure months ago in my Cary, NC dealership and didn't think it looked bad. I'm just not a person who is into a bunch of extras. It's neat that you can get rain sensing wipers and auto headlamps but for a car this small to me it seems like bling. I heard too that people with clear roofs have hard time getting their car to cool although now you can order the solid passion roof. I have never been so excited about a car before, am i nuts?!?!?!
The smart really is a revolution. As soon as i read about i put my deposit down. Also i would try and test drive one with and without power steering. I had a 95 civic without power steering and it was fine, even when getting out of parking spaces. but every time i say something about no power steering to people they freak out like you could never move the car without it. so it may be an option you may not need. but i would get A/C for sure
I have a Pure with A/C and the CD radio, thats it. I figured I could reach the other door so power windows would be one more thing to go wrong. I don't miss the power steering, you don't really need it on such a small car. They all have power locks, and I found the paddle shifters got in my way when I was turning. I rarely use the manual trans mode and it is there if you need it. I didn't want the panoramic roof as the shade adds thickness to the roof and you loose head space (I'm tall)
I decided for me, the bells and whistles of the passion were something I could live without, except A/C and a radio. The only thing I miss is an alarm system. So many people looking at it when I park, I get nervous.
