Doesn't it get kinda warm in Virginia?

No worse than any other car without air conditioning, I would think.

Also, think about resale value. No AC = Good deal for the buyer

I know someone in FLORIDA with a Pure without A/C. Gotta be the only one in the state. Resale is the last thing on the owners mind as they've owned the same cars as long as I've known them (that means they run them into the ground). If you're used to a car without A/C - it's not a problem, other than that I wouldn't do it.

I live in Northren Virgina my friend, and AC was the first and foremost piece of equipment i had to have in my Pure. Other things i was ok to do without, but the AC is not only a must have in that area, but is not all that expensive to add on the car. However, if you choose to fully load a Pure, it is better to get a base Passion, and even for 2009 a solid roof is an option for that model.

Actually, with the small cabin and engine in very close proximity, I find that the smart gets warm and stuffy a lot sooner than a regular car. I use the AC in the smart much more frequently than my other cars.

Interesting feedback. But, you're in LA. Not as much need for A/C there as there is in most locations. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your Summers are more mild than Minnesota's. So, in a larger car without the proximity of the heat generator, you can do without the A/C better ... but, not so in the smart? Got you right?

Virginia isn't LA, however.

EDIT: I actually spent a Summer outside of Minneapolis. Their Summers don't last as long as Florida's do, but they're every bit as hot, LOL

A/C adds little to the cost when viewed over the life of the loan. It raises the payments, what, maybe $3-5/month? But it makes a big difference in resale value.
