Its one of the worst radio's, I've ever had in some 40 cars. The funny thing is, I'm use to listening to the damn thing now. Or many too cheap to sink a grand into a new radio, speakers, and subwoofer.
The 10. I take it back, worst radio was 88 Mazda pickup, second place Smart, car, and 3rd place 81 Toyota Celica, all factory radios. There's is a runner up too, I forgot 1974 Ford Encoline Van. Concert hall special.
I thought about replacing the Smart radio, I don't want to tie up a lot of money in the car. I'll live with it.
My $.02. My Passion came with the radio 9. I was happy with the sound but its not what anyone would call high end. I wanted the MP3 capability so I upgraded to a radio 10. I think the sound is about the same but its a much better unit. Recently added the smart subwoofer under the drivers seat. That too helped alot. Get your car, drive it awhile and then decide for yourself.

Aah.
I was curious - I just spent 2 weeks in Ohio driving my mom's Chevrolet Monte Carlo with whatever the factory advanced audio upgrade is, and the results are not pretty. Compared to the 5 speaker radio 10 + sound package setup, it pales.

Worst I ever had was a Chevy conversion Van where the speakers were in the Door wells. The Carpet down there let none of the High end out. Alls we heard was the Base.
This would be the worst sounding radio that I've had. But it's something to listen to.

Just a sidenote...
My Radio 9 plays MP3 CD's just fine.
The stock head unit on the radio 10 is fine. Adequate power, clean signal. You MUST upgrade the in-door speakers, however. I had a shop do mine. Got a set of Polk DB651's (a popular choice on these forums) on e-bay for $65 bucks shipped. Had a pro shop instal it for $100. You can do it yourself, but it's pretty tricky. You must go in through the back, not the front. This involves removing the mirrors and the outer door skins (12 pages of instructions on evilution.uk). The paper speakers shipped on my radio 10 were not even 2-way. Sound is about 100% improved. The stock subwoofer is adequate.
If you want to go nuts, however, the sky's the limit...

You mean the 9 plays CDs that had MP3s converted and burned just fine, right?
The 10 takes regular MP3s, converts on the fly and plays them... instead of 15-20 songs to a CD you can put several hundred, arranged in folders and such if you like. It also pulls and displays the titles on the screen (does this with regular CDs with CD text on them as well).
