I replaced my speakers with Infinity Kappa's. I listen to music from Smooth Jazz to Hip Hop, everything sounds good with the radio 9 or 10. (I had a radio 9 at one point)
You mean the 9 plays CDs that had MP3s converted and burned just fine, right?
The 10 takes regular MP3s, converts on the fly and plays them... instead of 15-20 songs to a CD you can put several hundred, arranged in folders and such if you like. It also pulls and displays the titles on the screen (does this with regular CDs with CD text on them as well).
Nope, it's an mp3 CD. Burned as files, not an audio cd. Reads the ID3 tags and everything. Must be a new thing for the 09's. I know it isn't a radio 10, cause I didn't get one.

Interesting... and it's still a single CD with an all black faceplate (no silver trim rings around the display and buttons)? You have a coupe, as well, don't you?
Interesting '09 things coming out of the woodwork...
Thank you all for your advise.I suppose that I'll receive the car, drive it for a while and assess the quality. From what has been posted ,it looks like I'll probably eventually replace the side speakers, if we want to live the smart lifestyle in the optimal capacity.Again, thanks to all who responded. This forum is a wonderful thing!
I added two rear speakers in the rear hatch and tweeters up on the dash and I am very content with the sound quality and volume. I have Sirius radio directly connected too. Craig
I hated how I couldn't look at the song or change the song on my ipod, so I had professionals install a double din pioneer premiere. It made the car sound amazing. Now I am going to put in some memphis speakers.
Just yesterday I took my radio 9 enclosed by my smart to an upscale, custom radio shop, the owner jumped in, turned knobs. pushed buttons, and told me I had it all screwed up. He adjusted bass, treble and balance in both AM and FM, and WOW, what a difference. As I listen to talk radio mostly in AM, he advised me to leave things alone. For this, I'm going to put my $$ into my home entertainment system, and he will definitely get the job...
i put in my own radio, and the car had rear speaker wires, but where do they go? there were front speakers, but when iused the fader on the radio it went silent. is there a spot for the speakers where i could find the wires, or do i have to do a custom install?
What you see as front and rear speakers are actually door speakers and tweeters (in the front at the base of the windshied by the vents). If you didn't get the sound upgrade you don't have the tweeters but you do have wires taped up under the glovebox and on top of the fuse box for the uninstalled tweeters.
To get rear speakers hooked up you'll need your own wiring.
