Mine seems static-y on AM radio, even with strong signals. Sounds OK with my iPod plugged in. I might look into speaker upgrades after reading this however.

I just replaced the stock speakers with Infinitys. You can see them in the audio section or under my post about my new speakers today. I do say that the stock ones are real cheap. I had them distort on low bass which I did not like. Now I am replacing my Radio 10 with a DVD Nav, but that is just one of my mods/ toys I want for the car. Radio 10 seems fine for normal use. In fact, I probably will offer it to those that DON"T have one for just the cost of shipping. I throw in the speakers too if they like LOL.

I have to agree that AM reception is horrendous in this car.
I rarely listen to AM But when I do, WCBS 880AM, about 50 miles south of me in NYC is very clear in any other vehicle or on any other radio. Its just static in the smart, I wonder if I should have it looked at before the warranty runs out.

To get rear speakers hooked up you'll need your own wiring.
i have a Kenwood KDC-MP442U reciever, and it has rca cable outputs on the back...they are for pre-amps, but can i directly connect speakersto the cables?
