Question on vin numbers......

Does anyone know if the factory Brabus cars can be identified by the ID number? I also have a Corvette Z06 and the eighth digit is the letter "S". It is very easy to see if a car is the real thing or a conversion. I want to know because a lot of people are buying the Brabus kits and installing them on a regular car. Since the Brabus is not very common, I want to make sure my car will show as a factory car and not a aftermarket conversion. Thanks, George

Here's a Brabus VIN from Craig's List: WMEEJ31X59K251101

It appears to match up with the normal smart VINs:

WM = World Manufacturer (?)
E = smart
E = 451
J = coupe (pure, passion or Brabus the same) ? or
K = cabriolet (passion or Brabus the same) ?
31 = 70 HP N/A engine
X = passive restraints
= checksum (accuracy check) any digit 0-9 or X
9 = year (2009 example 9)
K = assembly building K, = Hambach, France
The next six numbers = the build sequence or serial number

So there doesn't appear to be a special Brabus code in the VIN.

Thanks for the info. I was really hoping for a Brabus specific vin number, but I guess that is not to be. It looks like we have almost matching Z06's. Mine is a 2004, also Torch red/black. Mine is totally stock with only 1052 miles.

A European BRABUS is easier to tell by its VIN because of the engine code embedded in the VIN: Code 33 (72 Kilowatt engine - 98 HP) instead of Code 31.

The 98 HP engine is only available in the BRABUS over there, and is also the only engine available in their BRABUS.....

The car is not here yet. I will check the title as soon as it arrives. I am just planning ahead, I am a bit anal about all my cars and like to have everything planned out ahead of time.

Our 03 just went over 20K miles with a recent trip to Texas. Not totally stock anymore; has a Blackwing intake, 04 Z06 shocks and just had a set of LG Motorsports long tube headers added (picked up about 35 hp)
