Had Maxwell home now for two months or so and can't seem to stop noticing a rather distinct color difference between the doors and front fenders. The photo below shows it a little but in person it seems to be even more obvious. It is almost as if the doors didn't stay in the paint booth quite long enough so that the black underneath shows through. Also, didn't get a picture, but part of the door panel that is inside the jamb when closed is nearly still black. Has anyone else noticed this?
I spent an hour today at smart center Seattle where there was 50 different smarts in various stages of getting ready to deliver... Yellow, Red and Blue were the most colors there with only a few Silver, Black and no White ones ( That I remember).
Because my buddy Snake has a paint issue, I deliberately scanned each car searching for paint bubbles, smears, defects or blemishes....
funny you seem to think there is a slight color mis match.... I am already not happy with the red so this may just be a bias on my part
but... I did note that the red cars ( about 9 of them) seemed to have a wide range of color miss match.... I initially chalked it up to the over cast day and different lighting angles...
I might go back this weekend (just 3 min away) and take a look to see if I detect what you are noticing....
My gut instinct is lighting angle and a not pleasing (to my eye) shade of red

There's simply no need to paint the panels' undersides, so you'll notice the same on the underside of your service flap (for example). It's perfectly normal on the metallic cars (silver, red, blue). On the non-metallics (yellow, white, black) the undersides are the same color as their outside surfaces because the panels are made out of those respective colors.

I know this is after thought, but the 09 is supposed to be a darker red, I wonder..... Naaaaahh... They couldn't be that sloppy at the plant.
I went with black because I know that is almost impossible to screw up....
I finally got some action on my problem by just going into the service department yesterday. Tom helped me pull off the wonder film and said they would order me a new hood panel.
My wife REALLY REALLY likes the red more than actual red so I'm a winner there. I just can't help myself though. I'm probably going to wind up with a Mossy Oak or Real Tree wrap before too long.
I gave mine the eagle-eye as soon as I got home from the dealer (mine's silver). looked at every inch of it. being it was a Smartie, that did not take long.
Thanks, all. Yea, the problem is not the non-red red which has been beaten to death over the past 8-12 months. It is more about the inconsistency. No matter, really, as Maxwell will have new skins eventually anyway.
