Now what? I ma so confused at "where" I am standing? Should I be waiting for a call as well from Smart? Or will it come from my Dealer in Lynnfield MA? Anyone care to "throw" me some answer as how long will it take to know something? I thought I'd ask before I call them. Sorry if I get on people's nerves and/or if this has been posted numerous amount of times, I just seem to not get the answers that I need. Thanks in advance...

Config

Amythyste,

Did you confirm/config from the same computer (IAP) that you reserved from? They may have some capture on the IAP; it might make a difference. I'd call ASAP.

Hmmm yes, I did everything from my home computer... Is there a place in the email that perked up a question in your mind ( by your reply )

No, it's just that when I recently logged into my dealer's "smart" website I found (No, I was found!) that the "system" knew it was me calling, and all my original reservation data came up pre-loaded into their test drive reservation form, long before I provided any personal information. Eerie, unless they are tracking my home IPA (numerical internet address).

What you have is a RESERVATION with RESERVATION NUMBER 7051021448 (you are a 1448) on December 17, 2007. You have NOT CONFIGURED YET. That will come later, about 3-4 months prior to delivery when you will select your exact options. You can make all the changes you want WHEN YOU CONFIGURE. Now sit back, wait and dream about your smart. You should be able to configure around MARCH 2008.

The e-mail you got means you reserved your spot. It's the one you get when you pay the $99 registration fee. Now you must wait until you get another e-mail for you to configure your car. This is when you specify the exact colors and options. This step could be 3-5 months away. Once you configure, then you will probably wait around 3-5 months for your car to be delivered to your dealer at which point you can then pay for it.

What is happening right now is that the folks who paid the registration on March 19, are just getting their cars now. So you can see that it will be quite a wait.

According to your number, you may get your car sometime at the end of 2008. Check for posts of other people with reservation numbers that end in 1448. The lower the number, the sooner you get your car. The people getting their cars now were 1173 or so.

Ametheyste you sent $99 for reservation

Should have received e-mail with this 7051021448 reservation confirmation number... looks like you got it

This was step#1 of a 4 step process (seems more like 3 steps right now)

Because of your current reservation number-- 1448--- the process might change for you and others ... (I have a 1470 res num too)

Step #2 should be an e-mail with a logon ID and Password

---- When you go to the provided web link and log in, you will get a list of exact configuration colors, interiors and add on options for the car you want. When done, you select finished--- and you should receive an e-mail confirmation with your desired car, all options and bottom line MSRP cost with the exclusions of tax ,title, and license fees etc..

Theoretically step #3 is contact from dealer to formalize the order, maybe pay a deposit, and wait for delivery day...obviously step #4

Right now I don't see too much step #3 activity... as cars come in, the configured reservation holder is contacted, given the VIN,(maybe) and told when the car is ready to pay for and take possesion....

NOW-- your status may be different we just don't know

BUT-- all of us received the SAME email you posted above...we that have done step #2, did not get a call from a dealer

And if you are worried that you might miss a call form a dealer or e-mail from SmartUSA-- do not be for several months... Your Dec 2007 reservation will not see any activity for at least 90 days from now and maybe longer...

The next two months of roll out deliveries will set the stage for how they will or will not change the process...

Also know this... for most folks moving to step #2... the invite to configure had requirement to do it within 10 days... SmartUSA noticed no log on and initiated phone contact to see if the reservation holder was going to configure or request a refund...

Very few missed the e-mail and the call...but some did... thus the info here on SCOA was good to have and prevented several from falling through the cracks....

I know that it is going to seem like forever for you, however this will provide a really good opportunity to learn what if anything else you should add to your "want" list.

I ordered power steering, but in retrospect don't think I needed it. I wish I would have ordered the tach, but at least can add that on later.

So keep a list of the things folks who receive their car and what they do and don't like about the options they added, and then you can really make a well educated decision if you want something else put on at the time you configure.

I did see a white with black at the dealership on Thursday and it was mighty nice.

I ordered a red and I will be fine, but if I'd had the chance to see in person, I might have opted for something else.

THank you all for your replies - its well appreciated. You are so right Beth... When I was in Germany, I visited the humongeous smart dealer in Hamburg and talked with the head cheese over there. He was most pleasant. I sat in EVERY model they had - the 4-2 - the 4-4 - the roadster - a suped up 4-2. I just fell in love with it simplicity and easy going-ness. For the first time in my life, I sat in a car and it felt like "home". I have NOT driven one yet, so I might want to get to the dealership and go for a test drive. It will be a good idea to see what I would like in the car before they call me to configure.

All of you early holders were lucky to get your smarts firstly, but I think me who has a late number can benefit from hearing all the feedbacks, reading posts on this forum and help me to make "smart" decisions....

Thank you.
