Questions before I configure

I want to be ready when my configuration email arrives (I'm res #1324), so I've been practicing and exploring all my options. Any answers from those who have already configured and/or delivered would be appreciated.

1) Choosing Additional Instruments (analog clock & tach) means I will have two clocks? (one digital and one analog?)

2) Is the 6-Disc CD Changer (included in the Smart Premium radio) located in the dash or is it a separate changer mounted somewhere else and controlled by the dash radio?

3) Does the Red Interior option really match the Red Exterior option well? (do the Reds look good together?)

4) Does the Cabrio top actually store out of the way into the parcel shelf? Can the top be removed altogether?

5) Is the electric power steering unit installed up front, away from the engine area?

6) Does the tire repair kit include a jack and lug wrench, even though there is no spare?

Thanks,
Maynard

1) yes, 2 clocks.
2) changer is included in the premium package. changer is in the head unit. no secondary changer (i think those have been phased out except in the US made cars)
6) there is no jack. there is a "fix-a-flat" system with a small compressor to air up the flat tire. i don't believe there is a lug wrench included anywhere.

1. You end up with two clocks because the radio has a clock displayed...but this is the only way to get a Tachometer

2. The 6 CD changer is part of the radio 10 no separate unit

3. I personally do not like the red...but I think the two together were fairly well cordinated... lots of opinions on this some love it many of us think it too orange tinted

4. The Rag top can not be removed... it has a full open position that brings it all down behind the seats and the two top rails can be removed and stored int he tail gate holders designed for them.

5. Yes the unit is up front on the rack and pinion steering assy

6. No, a jack or lug wrench is not included...just fix a flat can, small air compressor and a 800 number

Hey Smartdabbler. A good explanation of the top and how it works is in Jay Leno's short about the Smart. Here it is:

The clock is in the dash display.

Things to think about on options.

If you like tomato soup, you will love the red.

Although you will have two clocks, the "Pods" are a big part of the Smart identity, and will help resale.

No tire changing tools on board. Some on this board say, shooting the goop into your tire can destroy the tire air pressure sensor in the wheel. We are going with a compact tire and cover.

All the add ons are priced right!!! We went for the load, less the radio upgrade, again, for resale, and for the pleasure while we drive it.

A2Jack.

Thanks for the quick answers.

Thanks to all who have answered. This helps.

I'm hoping someone will come up with an aftermarket 1-1/4" receiver so I can mount a spare-tire carrier. I've never had a lot of success with the fix-a-flat stuff. It would be nice also to be able to mount a standard swing-down bike carrier or maybe one of those cargo trays for when a little extra carry space is needed.

This is fun.

The front & read tires are different sizes so you would need to carry two spares.

I am also getting ready to configure. My question, once you start the process is there a way to save it or get out before you complete it so that if as I go along I change my mind or get interrupted I can make the change or get back in.

Thanks.

Regarding #3 red interior.

I initially picked the red interior thinking it looked really hot. After seeing that interior in person at the my local smart center, I was completely disgusted with it. I will choose anything but the red interior. It is very orange. I'm more of a blue red, burgundy, maroon red guy. The orange reds burn my retina's. Way too bright for me.....

I would highly recommend having a look for yourself before choosing it, if you have the time and are able.
