I reserved July 12th, and the DDE was not available until October 3rd (83 days). That was sooner than I expected. The DDE says Oct - Dec 2009 (446-537 days).
Unless the window slides significantly toward the present, I expect I'm looking at a 2010 model ... which is what I want. OR, do I need to wait a few more months and plop down another deposit in order to make a 2010 realistic?
Exactly!!! - who knows the mystery of the dde? My 2008 is due soon, but I might just keep my orphan (whom I love ) and re-reserve for a 2010. But who knows how the wait time will change over the next year or so?

I reserved July 12, 2008 and my DDE date just popped up - July - Sept. '09 and it's still holding. However, I have not configured yet -- I also live in Los Angeles so my wait time for delivery may turn out to be longer than yours.
I reserved on the same date as you and I got my email to configure last week. So hopefully your email will be there soon. It looks like the cars are coming in faster, at least from what I was first told.
I reserved in May 2008 and I just checked today and I have an estimated date of October - November 09. I guess my smart could be either an '09 or '10, depending on the date of assy. I still haven't configured yet.
I'm looking forward to getting the color and options I want in my reserved smart, but I still enjoy my yellow Orphan.
