This would also affect acceptable performance of a cruise control.

Cruise control works very well with this transmission. I have it on both of my smarts and it works great. My units are aftermarket as the factory program has not been available here until recently.

As of now there is no cruise control offered by the factory on the 2008 model smart but I'm sure an aftermarket unit will be available by the time the cars are in the US.

Hi SY
Which cruise control did you get? Where did you get it? Thanks for the info.

I have on order the 'MDC' C.C.

It is 'Plug-in' (An important feature as an OEM-C.C. requires a MAP 'Hack', reprogram of computer).
A Canadian member can confirm and explain this 'MAP" thing alot better than I. I do know that it requires a piece of equiptment that the Merc. dealers have.

The stalk that comes with it replaces the original wiper stalk, has it's own circuit board and it plugs into a recepticle in front of the speedo and doesn't require an attachment to the accelerator.

This is the description by the seller.

[I]Cruise Control complete kit
This fits all models ForTwo and Roadster, left or right hand drive.
Special circuit board with smart's own cruise control arm, ready for DIY fit.
Instructions in German will have a clear English translation by the time you get your delivery
(being translated by a German/English national).
You must email us whether or not you have rear wiper (for correct arm).
for bigger pic - click this image .[/
I]

Price on line is 182.75lbs BUT that includes VAT.

BeSmart;
I would like to meet up with you, I'll bet we could even find something to talk about. Ventura is not that far (Not in a Smart). I am in Sunland/Tujunga.
PM me with your phone #, and when you're in Ventura .

The unit is MDC made in Germany. The closest vender is Smartieparts in British Columbia, Canada.

The unit consists of the factory wiper arm stalk, wiring looms, control circuit board, and led indicater light.

Installation consists of removing the instrument cluster, changing wiper stalk, plug/unplug, install wiring loom, install led, run wires down through center consul. You must remove the accelerater pedal and plug in new wiring loom fed from center consul. All the wiring meets under the center consul and is pluged into the new circuit board and hid under the consul.

The entire install takes less than an hour.
