Radiator

Just curious:

I've only had my new cabrio a short time, but I've already noticed several spots where the thin little radiator cooling fins have been damaged from large bugs or other debris that passes through the front grill diamond slots. I suspect this type of wear and tear is unavoidable, but is there any need to be concerned about the damage? I don't notice this much damage on my wife's 5 year old Honda, so maybe the little fins on the Smart radiator are just more fragile??

Same thing on my Excursion after 122,000 miles, but there it is the AC condenser - my be the same thing on the smart. I was wondering too about that and thinking of tie wrapping a door screen behind the grille opening. Might not hurt anything, just doesn't seem good for anything.

Putting a screen up could prevent proper airflow into the radiator for cooling. I wouldn't worry too much at the moment.
