FWIW, I live about 50 miles out of Nashville and when I got my smart the 9 wouldn't receive Nashville AM signals like all my other vehicle radios on the same stations. There was a lot of static and to hear it well the volumne needed to be cranked and the static was even worse. When I had the front fenders off I found this black box on the left side that has the lead from the antenna and goes off somewhere into the neverland of the cowl. Well the lead wires were what I would call "loose". I finger tightened both and now I get AM clear and crisp. As to the quality, that is in the ear of the listener and I am fine with the 9 because I am 99% a talk listener.

Radio must not be on the "Before Delivery Inspection" check list.

Wish you had taken some photos of that. My AM reception is terrible and I had the dealer check the antenna. They said all was OK. I still don't think it is.

Not mine. If the radio is on when the engine is shut off, the radio will be on when I start the car the next time.

If the radio is shut off when the engine is turned off, the radio is off the next time the engine is started.

If however, the radio is turned on while the engine is off, then turned off, the radio will be on the next time the engine is started.

I've seen varying experiences posted about this.
I can tell you for certain . . . My Radio 9 comes on EVERY TIME I START MY CAR, regardless of whether or not it was on when I turned the car off. If did see somewhere on these forums that there is a method of turning the radio on and off when the engine is off, which will make it stay off when the car is turned on. However, it has to be done every time.

So, if yours comes on every time you start your car, your options are limited. Leave it in AUX when you shut off the car, turn down the volume before you turn off the car, or deal with the radio turning on when the car starts.

Tom, could you be a little bit more specific about what you're looking for? A chip for what?
Thanks.

Nope. The six psycho PM's you sent me hassling me about actually wanting to sell it for a fair price on eBay turned me off about the whole thing, so I ended up giving it to Randy over at Smart Jacksonville, a gesture of gratitude for his help in getting my car back to me when the seat belt parts were back-ordered from France. (The guy cannibalized one of his cars to get me back on the road.. Good guy...)

Cheers-

Johnny
