When people ask me why I bought a Smart, I've settled on one answer.
Sure, I could talk about the great mileage, the plethora of safety features, the brilliant design and engineering, the environmental benefits of both the cars themselves and the plant that manufactures them, the low cost of replacing removable, recyclable plastic body panels to fix "dings" as opposed to traditional body shop repairs, the relative efficiency of one or two people in a Smart instead of in a mostly empty 6-passenger SUV, the ease of parking--even in spots way too small for ordinary vehicles--and so on, but I find such answers to mostly skirt around the true reason why I bought my Smart.
The real reason I bought the car, and continue to enjoy it so much, is that it's just plain FUN. It's fun to own, fun to drive, and fun to observe peoples varied reactions to it. It's even fun to look at as it sits in the driveway.
I've never owned a car that was this much fun and brought me such pleasure every time I get behind the wheel.
All things considered, is that such a bad answer?
