Stoned In Michigan

This is again, is a very old thread. By now the dealers should all be on the same page as far as quotes are concerned.

We run high mileage, and all our cars end up with stone hits on the windshields. So far the Smart has escaped a pit, but I have heard small stones hit. We have 20k on the car so we are due.

We carry enhanced glass insurance, it's very cheap.

Doesn't make that kind of crap right!!!!!! These situations are why our insurances cost so much. I believe they call it "INSURANCE FRAUD"..

That is absolutely unacceptable and this dealer should be blackballed.

Is this whole world gone GREEDY???????

1. Warranty Claim - A ROCK hit the windshield and cracked... same as a nail puncturing a tire... outside influ is NOT a failure of a component.... why would warranty have anything to do with it?
2. Greedy? The entire story was not and has not been told.. the client approved the windshield replacement, after she had called into the parts department and was provided an estimate for the PART. Client came into the SERVICE department and left car for the windshield to be installed. A signed write up form was included in this process. Due to an assumption by the client ( That she had a complete estimate ) AND the dealership ( that she had a complete estimate )
3. Fraud? How, that is what insurance is for.... rock causes damage to car... rock damage covered by policy, make claim on policy.... seems straight forward to me.

The tire warranties usually cover this for x number of days.

I bought my Smart from ParK Place Dallas and have not had good experiences with them. So, that could be your problem.

You are the second on this board talking about bad service from SCD. Might want to try again. Most people here, from DFW, love the Dallas Smart Center.

Just had a car in front of me throw a rock and cause a nickel sized spider crack in the windshield. Went straight home to try and avoid making the crack bigger. Called my Insurance company (State Farm), no deductible and set up to send a reputable Glass Shop out to my house tomorrow to repair the crack.

I was surprised how nice it looked, very professional and I only paid my $100 deductible. Not bad. I can say if Safelite doesn't have a smart windshield should something happen to my smart when it arrives there will be hell to pay. Liberty Mutual and Smart joined together to offer the smart owners better coverage with all the frills, if their sub contracts can't take care of my smart someone is going to have a bad day...

I couldn't have said it better myself.....And I also have Liberty Mutual...good company so far. Yes, a charge of almost 10% of the total cost of the car for a windshield replacement does sound abit exorbitant to me. After all...we did by this car for economy...among other things.
