Yep- I got the same email today! That's where I purchased my orphan a couple of weeks ago. Hey- take the Amtrak up and drive your new smart car home! That's the best way of going about it. I applied for a car loan via the internet from Bank of America and within hours everything was lined up and ready to go! Now I need to ditch my gas-guzzling SUV on some poor soul...

I have nothing but POSITIVE things to say about this NJ smart center and Danny! And it's so-o-o-o much better than WAITING! Go for it!

The best way to get an orphan at smartEdision is to go to the showroom. They have no orphan list(I was told this) and give preference to those who walk in the showroom. Also be prepared to pay for extended warranty on car and tires and a gps unit. It will probably total about $2500 over list ( I was told this)just to let you know so you are prepared to buy.
If you want one now.Also talk to a few salespeople because they seem to divy up the orphans to each and not all are fair game for each salesman( I observed this). Hope this helps

Yes- they do put add-ons on the orphans but I figured I'd rather paid an extra $2k+ and GET SOMETHING to show for it rather than pay a (greedy?) seller on ebay or craigslist. Personal opinion, I guess. I'm THRILLED with my experience buying an orphan from Edison! I just didn't have the patience to wait for my reserved orphan...

I thought dealers weren't allowed to sell to anyone outside of their area. I called several dealers within 300 miles of Knoxville, and was told that I had to go through my dealer here in Knoxville.

Well... there's something called an "AOI" (Area Of Interest) the smart centers are suppose to follow. As long as they sell within their AOI they somehow get 3% from "Mother Smart". If you want to buy an orphan which is out of the available orphan's smart center's AOI you would have to agree to pay them the 3% they would lose out on by selling to you. Yes- it's another fee but I personally decided that it was well worth paying $400+ extra to get my smart orphan NOW as opposed to waiting 18 (or more) months to get my reserved one. I can make up $400 in a couple of months just by the gas I'm saving as opposed to driving my gas-sucking SUV. Personal choice but it is a CHOICE.

Thanks for the info. I just emailed several dealers within a day's driving distance of Knoxville, and suggested the 3% charge. We'll see what I get back.

I went to smartEdision back in April. I was offered an orphan passion all black.the only addon was lojack for $695. It caught me by surprise. I wanted a loaded passion in blue but would have taken any loaded passion. I decided to wait til a loaded passion arrived, in the mean time the addons increased. I tend to buy and keep my vehicles so for me I rather have the car the way I want then to be first on the block. I do not begrudge the dealer for adding on(when the times comes I will decide if I will pay) just want to provide info so someone is not caught surprised
