Rear window wiper!!!

First, we love our Smart, but, we have just discovered the dumbest thing we have ever seen on a car. We have just finished a 1700 mile cross country trip from New Mexico to Kentucky. On the interstate during a rain storm I wanted to use the rear window wiper to clear it, but could not figure out how to turn it on. Looked in the owners manual and the rear wiper will only work when the car is in reverse!!!! What idiot designed this??? This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen on any car. Going down the road in a rainstorm the water blows up onto the rear window but you can not use the wiper going forward. STUPID Anyone know any way to change this??

Push wiper lever one notch forward, a little more for rear washer to work.
If the wipers are on, and your in reverse, the rear wiper works. Very smart!!!

Push forward on the wiper stalk to turn on wiper, keep pusihing forward for the rear washer.
That nifty little feature you talked about is when the wipers are on and when reverse is selected, the rear wiper will wipe once. A little something that came from mercedes.

He'll figure it out by next year. Maybe even learning how to use it to wash the rear window while speeding down the highway.

I wish the cabrio even had a rear wiper. Most days when I leave for work in the morning, the car is covered in dew. The defroster works to clear the window, but very slowly.

Caught me too. Not up or down, do not twist, but push, or pull as necessary. I really like the feature that when you come to a stop, the wipers go to a very slow speed...
