no. since there is no excess inventory, and every vehicle is spoken for BEFORE it gets built, as soon as they start building and shipping 2009's, that'll mark the official end of 2008's with the exception of possibly a few week's worth of orphans.
the reason for the increase can be attributed to a number of factors.
increased cost of manufacture.
increased cost of raw materials.
inflation.
demand.
weak US dollar.
transportation costs.
enhanced set of standard options (unconfirmed at this time)
the first model year may have been intentionally under-priced to ensure sell-through.
now that they know there's a 24 month wait in some cases, adding a $1000 on shouldn't affect demand in any negative way.
there may have been R&D costs associated with re-engineering or replacing parts in the 2008 model that get passed onto 2009 buyers who have the better solution -sunshades, gear shift, door lock mechanism, etc. (unconfirmed, just hypothesizing)
there may be a unique opportunity to pick up a dealer floor model or demo car for a good price tho. as undoubtedly they will be first to get 2009's on the showroom floor and won't have a further need for 2008's. so if you want a wailed on 2008 with a few thousand demo miles from 3,000 strangers, you may be in luck!
