I called my dealer about it... they said it was about 850 cars worldwide, 74ish in the US, and only 40 of those had been delivered, the rest are sitting. All owners have already been called. So, if you haven't gotten a call... you're not affected.

wonder then if there are being sent back to the factory? Surely anything that they could do would take less then a week, so most of that time would be transit....again!

I think this is an outside timeframe. As said, the representative that called indicated that they did not yet have instructions from the factory. I just spoke with someone at the dealership where I bought the car and they are only just aware that there is a problem with some of the cars. Someone from the dealership is supposed to be calling me this afternoon and provide more information. I'll let folks here know when I hear something.

Yeah. I can understand how discouraging it must be to have a manufacturer proactively support their customers and make sure the cars they sell are up to snuff.

It totally sucks to have good customer service.

Oh My GOD! They're going to fix my car! Quick! Demand a refund! Make them rent you a Maserati! It's Freakin' Inconvenient of the company to make sure your car is right!

Good freakin' lord.

Most automobile manufacturers pump out thousands of cars a day. Smart doesn't. This recall affects only a few days worth of production.

Really? You can disassemble a Smart to it's Tridion cell, strip the paint, resquirt it and reassemble the car in a week? Maybe you should get over to France and help put the cars together!

Your pal,
Meat.

Just curious, but could this problem be related in some way to those who have had their roofs come loose? I'm guessing that the windshield and roofs are attached to the car in similiar fashion and could be disastrous were they to blow loose at highway speeds. If I were smart, I'd want them off the streets as quicky as possible too. The negative publicity of the windshields and roofs flying off and causing injury would destroy the car.

Coming to Meat's defense is like watching internet porn; it's only fun until you realize that the link was to two girls and a cup...

Your pal,
Meat.

If I was told I wouldn't have my car for two months I would be getting my money back. In Michigan our lemon law counts anything that is out of service for 30 or more days as a lemon. You might want to to check your local laws and bring this up when they come pick up your car, you will likely be very well taken care of, even if you wont really do it.
