Well it’s been 48 hours and life is now very surreal because I finally have my smartie. No more talking about it…no more wishing for it….no more thoughts of envy….I now just grin and have a warm feeling in my tummy. Now to the details of the day!
(A funny thing happened on the way to the bank):
On Tuesday, I waited at work for the overnight delivery of my check so I could fund this cute little purchase. As the day drew out, I became extremely anxious because UPS had already delivered their morning batch so that meant my envelope was coming in the afternoon around 1pm. (I thought…no problem). At 2:54 pm, I find out that UPS Airways experienced weather delays for their afternoon deliveries. While panic was setting in I actually thought: What’s up with that! Nobody experienced any delays getting the NY Giants back home today after traveling from Phx. so they could have that stupid parade, so why is my envelope delayed? Where’s the justice!] Anyway, thankfully, they confirmed my envelope had made it on a truck and would be delivered ASAP.
At 3:32 pm, I went to the mailroom and began pacing like an expected Dad at the delivery room door. The clocked ticked and ticked. But at 3:52 pm, I knew my hopes of getting that check to the bank before 4pm (which is 4 blocks down Park Ave) was hopeless. So I took my broken hearted self back to my floor. Stopped off and spoke with a colleague about a work and then went to my desk. Low and behold, on my chair was the golden challis (aka the UPS envelope). The time was now 4:06pm and the bank was closed. (DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!) With my hopes completely dashed, I called my daughter and told her the delivery was off for the night since I couldn’t get a certified check. I dreaded having to call Danny Wong to say the delivery is delayed yet again. But before doing so, something told me to “call Edison smart center” and pray for a miracle.
I spoke with a Finance Manager at Edison and after telling him my sad story, he only said, “No problem. You have the check so we’ll give you the car. Just bring us a certified check on Wednesday and I’ll let Danny know. You just need to sign an extra contract which will be voided once you pay us.” At this point, the heavens opened up with a glorious aria of light and magic!!! (At least in my head that’s what I saw and heard, Your Honor.) I couldn’t believe Edison was willing to give me a free smart!!!
Like a whipped puppy, I quickly left the office and headed to NJ where I met up with my daughter. We zoomed to Edison by warp speed (only because I can’t remember the ride over). We got to the dealership and as we stepped inside the showroom, we were met by Danny Wong who was again all smiles. All the paperwork was done so the delivery took about 15 mins. Funny, I felt like I had to force Danny to accept a copy of my certified check which confirms I have the money. Danny was like, “We don’t need that but ok, I’ll put it in your file. He didn’t even ask me for a personal check for a down payment. He just handed me the key and said, “There you go!” Is that crazy or what? I just took delivery of a free smart.
All the while, Raechelle took tons of pixs so I could focus on the delivery. The overall process at Edison was wonderful and more than I could have hoped for. Edison smart center rocks like nobody else! THEY GAVE EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE, WHILE BEING FLEXIBLE, ACCOMMODATING AND SINCERELY KIND TO ME. I’ll never forget it!
