The chip is hidden somewhere in the car.
So a good question is do you even need the key to drive it?

Hi Poleposition
The information you are giving us does not jive with what most of us are getting.

Yes I need a key to start it. When the install was done, I needed to bring in all my keys so they can all be coded properly. And yes, Rallye motors (Smart center Roslyn) is where I bought the car and who did the install. After you've remotely started the car, the doors automatically lock if they werent before, the parking lights go on. When you walk up to the car, you hold the remote start button down again until the door unlocks, you get in the car and put the key in the ignition and turn it to position 1. You step on the brake and off you go. If you step on the brake before inserting the key, the car shuts off. Quite a slick system. You can also shut the car remotely as well if you change your mind.

I had an after market remote start installed at the same time I did additional speakers and stereo. It sounds a lot like Poleposition said. The key has too be in the ignition before you hit the brake to put it in gear. I don't know about the chip and the key. I think they took the "guts" out of my key and must have them in the car somewhere. If I press the buttons on the key, it is empty- I have to use the remote dealy to unlock the doors. I actually just leave the key in the ignition and only carry the remote around. I tested it to make sure you can't start it without killing the alarm first, so I know no one can just break a window and drive off. Plus, since most people wouldn't know where to find the key, they don't know to look for it in the ignition. The only thing I wish I could do was have the heated seats on all the time so they are already warm when I get in... :-)

There are some higher end remote start systems available that allow you to turn on the rear defroster. Maybe something like that could do the seats as well.

Remote Starter is possible!!

I currently install remote starters & have just purchased a '05 Pulse. I am looking into installing a remote starter right now. I don't believe the vehicle has a 'Transponder' type anti-theft, however getting around the diesel part of the install is the difficult part.
I will hopefully keep you updated(if interested).

Anyone care to let us know what the dealers charge to install one of these systems ? It's starting to get mighty cold here in Michigan. A2Jack.
