If you check eBay they are probably selling $3,000 - $5,000 over msrp. I heard there was one in Dallas at a used dealer lot that was sold within a day for $3,000 over.
Hey the less there are and the price of gas going $4+ this is just the tip of the iceberg. The SMART was and is a great car investment, you won't lose a dime on it!!!! This is capitalism at it's best!! high demand very low inventory, a seller's market. I would not worry if you get one!!! p1nball
I just saw For Sale sign on a Passion Silver/Silver leather heated seats etc. $19,999 I looked up the price and I figure it was about $3,000 over MSRP This was in Ramsey NJ
when you buy a car it's MSRP + destination + Dealer doc + title/plates + tax
so just for yuks lets do the math on a hypothetical cabrio
$18,000-nicely optioned + $600-destination + $150-doc/fees + $100-title/plates + $1395-tax = $20245 out the door
Thats the price you have to sell it for just to break even!
Plus you have to pay for insurance....then you pay the e-bay fee if you list it there...and speaking of e-bay look at the completed auctions very, very few actually sell most end with reserve not met. You better have some pretty deep pockets if you're gonna buy these with the intention of flipping for a profit...
Within several months, they will be selling for msrp. Keep in mind, these are subcompacts. Within 4 years, it'll sell for half of msrp.
By no means, will this car retain its value like the mini cooper.
I'm not hating, just being honest with myself.
Macaw is right on, I just recieved my Cab, with leather, heated seats, sport pac and sound pac, I landed it at home for 19200. I wouldnt take less than 25000 for it. And even then I dont know if I would. I'm currently making (saving) $2000/yr in fuel (at $3.69 gal) over my pickup. I'd be more apt to sell my 66 mustang.
