Reservations for 2009?

I was wondering, if i was to reserve a Smart from the website for $99. Would this pretty much throw me on this crazy long waiting list for 09'? Since all the smarts for 08 are "sold". I know there is a good chance i would be able to get one from buyers backing out sooner or later. I wouldn't mind waiting a while. Maybe until we here if smart will be making any changes for the 2009 models?

Should i just reserve one to be on the list? Anyone reserve one recently that can give me some info on how long they have to wait? Thanks!

if you were to reserve today your wait would be anywhere from 10-18 months if they keep the same pace and depending on demographics and how many orders there are from your area.

if you were to order today your wait would be anywhere from 10-18 months if they keep the same pace. I would say reserve one anyway...you're not obligated to configure or buy it so at least it gets you in line if you don't get one of the orphans.

Thanks. I just wanted to see when others were expecting to get their Smart that have recently reserved. I still have a couple months left on my current lease and in no rush to purchase another car.

So this way if i get on the list, i have a good chance to get an 09' and if i'm ready and it's been confirmed there won't be any Turbo models or any new features on the 09's i can get an orphan much sooner. There was actually one available yesterday at my local dealer. Buyer backed out and it was the same color combo i want! So there will be many chances to grab one, if you really want one.
