Hi- It's only been 5 months since you reserved. I reserved in May, and didn't confirm until Dec.. That's 7 months. I know it's hard being patient, but it'll be worth it...
It makes me really upset also, about all the people getting orphans so fast without even being on an orphan list, etc.....
mnext02 - I reserved my Smart Passion in April, 07, and configuration was confirmed in Dec., 07 = 8 mos. Sure, I could have jumped onto an Orphan list as the first Smart fortwos began to show and a few customers decided to opt-out. However, my Smart dealer has had VERY few Orphans, and they have reservations booked for the next two years! Plus, I wanted my Smart configured just the way I ordered it, no extra add-ons and no extra charges. My guess is that the Orphan reservation list is going to begin to stack up just like the reservations did in most areas of the country.
Finally, if I found a dealership loaded with Orphans and no waiting lists, I'd be a little concerned why so many reservation holders got cold feet at the last minute as well as why the Orphan list is equally anemic - especially in light of the vast majority of Smart owners who are happy with their new vehicles.
There's not much stopping you from joining an Orphan waiting list while you wait for your confirmation!

i agree.....what i've seen here on the forum, in most cases it takes 6-7 months before you're 'confirmed/configured'. if you see where someone 'reserved' and was 'c/c'd a very short time later, it was probably due to a computer glitch, which was addressed in another thread.
as for the orphans.....i believe that to be on anyones 'orphan list' that you must have placed a 'reservation' first AND that you must live within the same State as the dealer, UNLESS you have no dealer in your State and then you must be only on the list of the dealer to which you were assigned.
fair is fair......and this keeps people from first, buying up orphans only to resell them for BIG $$ and second, it allows the dealer to start building a customer base of their own for Parts and Service.
Problem is, it's NOT fair! My dealer has an orphan list and they have NEVER called anyone on it! this information came directly from a "Brand Specialist". She told me that she has never kept an orphan for more than one hour, and that usually when one becomes available either someone is in the showroom at the time and wants one, or someone just happens to call and there is one available. I've been on the so-called "orphan list" at my dealer since the day I configured, but I've never gotten a call. And yes, I called to make sure they had my information. That's when she told me the above. I will just have to wait for the car I ordered, as there is no way for me to get an orphan. I have called around to three other smart dealers. One said they had nothing, but would put me on the list. The other two said they'd "have to check and get back to me". Neither of them even called to say they had nothing for me. Some customer service!
