My pup and I ride with windows down all the time. I got him a harness seat belt that attaches to the front passenger seat belt. I have fairly short hair, but do wear a baseball cap in the summer.

On the highway, I roll the windows down about four inches on each side and crank up the stereo -- or if it is really hot, I have used the AC.

Pictures! Pictures of the "Pup" in the Smart, please. Yes, it's best to have a safety harness for these little guys. Our Westie is so short, I also got her a doggie seat (with harness) so she safely can watch and enjoy the drive - and of course "Doggles" to spare her from old age cataracts.

I drive with the windows down as much as I can (even in the rain). But you won't see me opening them in the rain in the smart.

On the topic of dogs, yesterday I was at a professional uniform store. A cop (I think) had parked his 4 door Civic and had gotten out, leaving the windows cracked about an inch with his dogs inside (IDK breed). The big dog of the 2 got into the driver's seat and the smaller one got into the front passenger. They sat up and leaned their backs on the seat. For about 5 minutes they both were looking straight ahead. If you were not looking through the side windows they looked like they were actually driving the car! When the owner came back the little one gave up the seat to the big one and went to the back. Even with the car pulling out they were sitting up imitating a human.
They looked....adorable...
