Ripped Off

On Saturday, March 8th I went to Best Buy (in the "shady" part of Atlanta) and parked my bright red/silver smart 4 spots from the front door. I came out 20 minutes later to find my temporary plate GONE. I was so mad. I really wanted to keep all the original documentation, the plate had the date I picked up my new smart (Feb 23rd, 2008).

Any one else have this experience?

BTW...smart center of Buckhead replaced the plate at no charge (they are so nice). But now it reads a March date.

The "shady" part of Atlanta? Not sure what that means but if it's in quotes just consider the whole thing a learning experience.

temp plate

Will the dealer not put it inside rear glass with some tape this time. That is common at all dealers in our state. This keeps a group of people that can't get drivers permit or insurance from stealing it. Allways some jerk raining on your parade!!

That s*cks! Here in CA they only give you a little piece of paper to stick inside the windshield.

Last summer, my daughter bought an 02 Honda Civic. The salesman told her to keep the temp on the inside of the car because people like to steal them.
My temp is kind of stuck under the license plate frame. I suppose someone could take it too.

This is a common problem in many areas, bad guys take the temp tags so that they can drive vehicles with expired tags as most officers will not stop every temp tag to see if it is valid, it is far easier to spot an expired plate.

And occassionaly due to wind and driving, they just fall off.

Good thing is it was replaced for free and will only help the bad guy for 45 days before it expires anyway.

Same in NJ...a 6" x 10" or so handwritten form with double sticky to put in your rear window till your tags arrive. Sorry you got hit man, that just sux.
