dune. i don;'t know about that. in my experience, dad tends to be as big an ass as his kids. monkey see, monkey do. i mean, if dad (and mom) were doing their job properly, their kids wouldn't act that way in the first place. throwing something at a passing car crosses the line to assault IMHO. but i bet if you asked the kids, they'd tell you a story about how they were justified in their actions because the guy in the smart looked at them the wrong way or disrespected them or whatever. and dad would back them up.
because that's what some kids and their parents have become nowadays.

Well said - In Orlando the other day I had some kids in a jacked up Dodge 4x4 go flying by screaming hanging out the window at 85mph. Honestly that's OK as long as they don't fall out and I run them over, I don't want to damage the car. A lot of us here had to scream about something or another when we were kids. MOST of us here on the forum grew up. A few feel the need to continue on though.
It's when they start throwing things, that's a subtle form of assault. A NO-NO!!

Reason: typed mpg instead of mph
For you to say it is hard to find any politeness is either hyperbole, idiocy, or laziness. Your negative outlook on life is what brings everyone else down, not the occasional idiot who has no respect, regardless of their age.
I'm actually a very positive person but let's face it politeness is gone. Have you read some of the posts on here? smart people flaming other smart people. For example: you just called me an idiot or lazy when all I said was politeness was hard to find. I didn't say all young people were ill mannered. I was commenting on a societal change that has been noted by social scientists. It was a discussion about ONE incident that someone brought up, not a generalization about all young people. I sense that you took offense to a negative comment about young people since you are young and I bet we're all sorry if you were offended. I apologize.
I bet the people who have flamed me on this forum will apologize to me, or if they really knew they offended me they would apologize.
You want respect? Bring respect to the table. You say you aren't generalizing, yet your first comment is claiming that children are being spoiled rotten and it is damaging them. There is nothing about it being a small number out of many or even a 'many' thrown in there. You state it as an absolute statement. Any young person would be offended by your demeaning remarks.

A friend of mine had a similar experience a year ago. He went back and picked up the thing that was thrown at their car and took it to the police. They filed charges for assault, leaving the scene, and use of a motor vehicle in the commission of a crime. The kids all got screwed. and the parents publicly humiliated. The kid driving got jail time and lost his license; another kid had his admission to an ivy-league college revoked.
Oh for the love of Pete. You guys were just as bad as kids as we are. The world is the same as always and is not going to the gutter like everyone thinks. Old peopel just can't stand change.
Re: Punks Welcome to my bicycle commuter world. For whatever reason (perhaps the smarts "leisurely acceleration") something about economical out-of-the mainstream transportation set some people off. its often kids, often in their parent's pickup or BMW, that scream epithets or throw things, even bottles and cans, at me. Yesterday, I made a left turn on my bike through a busy intersection, followed closely by a landscaper's loud diesel pickup, piloted by a couple of teenagers, that several times revved its engine way up, I suppose in neutral. If the point was to scare the crap out of me they were successful. I guess the point of this is that as drivers of a "weird" car, we can expect some harassment from the 1% that are yahoos---remain calm & have faith that they willeventually pay for their arrogance.......& keep your cell phone handy too.

to deny the decline in civility and morals in the society at large, is just to have blinders on. that, or you're too much a part of it to see it.
