Saw Black MHD in San Jose this weekend

Howdy All. I thought I was seeing things but I spotted a black passion MHD this weekend in Downtown San Jose, CA. I figured "Ah, the factory just put the "MHD" text on the hatch by mistake. Then I looked at the shifter housing and there was a green button where the "top up/down" switch is on the cabrio that said "ECO" or something on and off.

You would think we would get this version as the Mitsubishi 3-cyl was designed from the start to incorporate auto-start/stop. Would also bring up city MPG which (you'd think) would be a huge boost for a "city" car.

Must be either a test car, import (like the legendary roadster), or a modified car.

Too bad nobody ever has any photos when they allegedly see a forfour or other model smart on US roads.

That's cool. I too don't understand why this isn't included in the Mitsubishi system, the car that originally used our engine (Mitsubishi Colt) has start/stop technology already.

Oh yeah, I forgot about visiting cars from up north or down south.

If I understand the Spanish laguaged smart Mexico site well enough, they don't have it yet either.
When the configurator comes back online I'll attempt to make a MHD on the Mexico site

EDIT: Spain has MHDs available...

If it's test car it would most likely have manufacturers plates, possibly Michigan plates since Pensky is based there.
I hope they seriously consider bringing it to market.

Think of the cost to certify an other powertrain and the # of these little beauties they actually get people to pay for and I can begin to understand why smart USA has not jumped in with both feet yet.
Going on year two still do not see myself coming too often. Seems to be a small niche car.
Happy as as all getout with mine and I hope they (smart USA) make enough money to keep selling them.
