FYI.
I have discover the exact same thing. The scangauge speed is correct and my speedo is off by 3 mph (reads high) also per my GPS unit.

I agree exactly. But, interestingly, the odometer is the opposite I believe. That is, for every 10 actual miles traveled my observation is that it is registering only about 9.9 or maybe 9.8 miles traveled. That's good for us. Makes the warranty longer.

I came to this conclusion not using GPS for the mileage, but the State's mileage markers. Perhaps someone else can confirm.

That is odd. My smart speedo is three or four mph slower than my gps and scanguage.

My speedo will say 80 and the other two say 76.

I think I've said this in another scangauge thread, but my odo shows 3 mph more than my scangauge reads. E.g., I will see 70 on odo but 67 on scangauge.

In other words, you're agreeing with the others above; your speedometer reads faster than the actual speed.

It seems to be common, but at least it keeps people from speeding.

That is pretty typical. Most cars I've owned have had speedometers that report about 2-3 mph faster than you're really going at highway speeds (Less noticeable under 40 mph). Ever notice why people frequently say "cops won't pull you over for exceeding the speed limit by less than 5 mph..." It's cuz you're really not speeding at that point.

scangauge adjustments

My scangauge and odometer were off by 2% based on the GPS. Scangauge speed adjustment now set to +2% and scangauge and gps match.

The more important setting is the Fuel used adjustment. I have not set this yet because I am still awaiting my first fillup with the scangauge installed. I have seen values of 5 and 10 % but those were for Canadian owners (?important) What values have others used?

As long as you follow the calibration instructions in the ScanGauge manual, you'll find the fuel readings to be very accurate.

How to do this is described in the manual. It is fairly easy but somewhat time consuming.

BTW. Just wanted to say thanks for this tip! It really does make saving gas seem like some sort of video game...

My current four gages are MPG, Water Temp, Current Trip Avg MPG (XGAUGE) and Current Trip Cost (XGAUGE).

I kind of half expect to run out of fuel one day and see the gauge telling me to add more coins.

Today I decided that I had used enough of my tank to do the fillup process. Basically, you fill your tank at the same pump as your initial fillup and record the number of gallons (e.g. 6 g). Then on the scangauge you go to the fillup screen that shows you what it thinks you used (e.g. 5.4). you then adjust the 5.4 value until it shows 6.0. That results in a % adjustment that it saves. In my case, it was 10%.
My assumption is that this 10% (and the related speed adjustment) are used when it calculates the various mpg values.

This 10% adjustment is a pretty big hit so the mileage that we see on the scangauge with default values is much better than it really is.
I would like to hear what adjustment values others get. I did read somewhere that one has to do this adjustment procedure 4 or 5 times to get an accurate value.
