They look great! When did you order them?

I still want to do a set of Wet Okole. My last set was bright bright green - to match my car......

That's about what my last set took. Actually a little bit longer as they sent me a swatch before they would make my covers due to the extreme gaudiness of my covers. What they didn't know was I was on a extended "business trip" and was ordering them from several thousand miles away. With the swatch it did add on an extra month but actual production was only a month. I still think the Wet Okole covers are great.

Seems to me that the slit would constrain this movement and either delay or contain the deployment to the point of being ineffective.
DISCLAIMER: This is just my opinion and not based on prior knowledge or experience.
It's a reasonable concern. From the IIHS crash test video for the smart, it does look like the bags deploy out and toward the front, so a straight slit might delay or prevent the bags from fully deploying (see http://www.iihs.org/video.aspx?f=releases/pr051408 at about 1:11 and 1:34 of the video).

Maybe a better design would be a finished hole that follows the outline of the side bag cover on the OEM seat.

UGG Boots, Seat Covers and Rugs by Superlamb

They have patterns now for the smart 451, side airbags and all. GREAT customer service and sheepskin is great. Give them a try.

Custom made

I read a review from someone on here that had seatcovers done by a guy by the name of "John". Well I ordered a custom 'black on tan' cover to match my beige interior. It was custom fitted and ran about $90 a pair. It was a pretty decent deal so I thought.

When I got it, I knew it had to be returned right away. The side covered half of the airbag deployment area. To me, that was unacceptable. I do not want to take any chances with something like safety so I took some pictures and returned it for more 'custom fitting'. I had to pay $10 to get it back to him. I hope he gets it right this time.

They do look nice but I don't want it to block one inch of the airbag.

Especially when the smart relies so much on airbags to protect its occupants...

Full blown alternative

Review the site for Katzkin. They have a pattern ready for full leather seats cover (that replace the original cover) for your smart listed under Mercedes Benz (brand) smart fortwo (model). Downside will be that they will need to be ordered from a registered Katzkin dealer/distributor: would be best installed by a professional upholstery shop; and will not be cheap (if Miata prices are any indication, figure around $500 to $600 for the pair). But, quality will be top shelf.

I received sample swatches from Wet Okole and was wondering how much/if they will lessen the effect of my heated(cloth) seats. The samples I have are for the sides(I think) and they say the seat part is padded.

Well I got my seat covers back from the 'minor' repair to the side air bag area. So far they are great. Some of the MN folks have seen them. It saves the wear and tear especially with two dogs.
