The best response I heard from a Smart salesman answering a question from an owner who had car trouble. "It's just a machine. It's got mechanical parts. Sometimes things break" However, I like the bad gas theory from herbdvh. With prices so high I would expect gasoline "issues" to pop up more often now. Best advice from the Hitchhiker's Guide. "Don't Panic'

And to answer 74AMX304V8's questions, fuel level was half a tank, speed somewhere in the 10-15mph range. I was driving straight in automatic mode and gently accelerating when it happened (stop sign on end of block), immediately after turning left. I had *just* left work.

There's a thread in here somewhere where someone had the same problem but only after left hand turns. Do a search for it!

Could you have moved the key by accident?

I read this problem on another forum:

http://www.*********/forum/topic/sho...ATopic%3A25385

It doesn't appear to be consistent, and so far, there's no fix for it because they can't replicate the occurrence.

Hopefully a solution can be found soon. As a car driver, I hate to hear, "it's a car. It has part. Things will happen".

You could use my wife's solution for no left turns - "Three rights make a left" (She's so terrified to drive she actually does this).

Use that and no more stalls with the left hand turns.

In all seriousness, I hope it doesn't happen again and maybe it was a freakish one-time thing.

UPS also plans routes with no left turns.

Check Ignition Key...

I've had this happen to me once and it turned out I had so much stuff on my key chain, it turned-off the engine while I was driving. So I had to remove some of my other keys hanging off of it and I've never had it happen again.
I'm guessing maybe that's what happend here too.

Exactly, so if you're afraid of it, sell it. I'm a wife and if I get afraid of it being unreliable I will sell it. Until then ...
