BB, make sure and post what the issue is and how it is fixed. I'm 8 hours from the nearest dealer and stories like this freak me out.

These shifter problems are just insane!!! I hope they have a serious recall to take care of them. I'm on my second shifter after owner the car 2 weeks and it has just ruined my experience. I love the car and the attention it gets, but I hate being stranded for hours waiting on roadside.

I agree with you, I had 4,500 miles on my car when the wife and I got stranded. They are replacing mine, its been in the shop for one week as of today. After reading your post they can keep my car until MB resolves there problem.

If they've replaced your shifter, the problem should be resolved. That's what they'll do if they do issue a recall. I've heard (and who knows if it's true) that they're delaying delivery and holding cars in Baltimore to replace the shifters plus some issue with the heated seats.

Had to have my shifter replaced too (after only 300 miles). I'm hoping the problem is resolved for good!

Yep, had to have my Cabrio towed from a restaurant last night. (And my husband had specifically asked our dealer about shifter issues.)

Sigh.

Still love the car, but I'm bummed about it. But then, my last car was a Corolla. I guess I was pretty spoiled.

who actually has come to really dislike the attention. But don't mind her, she's cranky this morning.

Unfortunately, replacing the shifter with exactly the same shifter will only get you going at that time. I asked, when mine was replaced after two weeks of ownership, if it was a modified unit and was told no; it’s just like the one we took out. There is no upgraded unit available, although my service advisor said there probably will be as this is the number one problem they see.
