Shifting & Driving Technique

What's your driving/shifting style?

1. Let the Automatic shift
2. Shift at 10 mph intervals (10, 20, 30, 40)
3. Shift at 15 mph intervals (15, 30, 45, 60)
4. Shift at redline (27, 46, 71, 91)
5. Don't know, don't care

I've found that 15 mph shift points work really well for most driving. I don't let up on the accelerator in corners, letting the ESP reign me in.

Mileage is great, but the fun factor is greater.

During the first 1,000 miles, (only 100 left to go), I've been shifting at 4,000 RPM. I always drive much more by the tach than the speedo.

Auto when on the highway, otherwise Im shifting my own right now.

Between 3 and 4k...flick the paddle shifter, let up on the gas then back down, smooth as silk.

Ive been trying to explain to people that if you just stop thinking of it as an auto or a manual and just accept is a new breed of transmission and learn it and work with it then it comes easy and works very well.

After my first drive I had my doubts more than anyone. But after spending my first 2 days (and 200 miles) with the car its become second nature.

After 700 miles, I firmly believe that the automatic mode is best overall. I don't "play" with the throttle between shifts. I feel it shifts smoothest and quickest when I treat it like an automatic and hold the throttle steady. I think that moving the throttle during shifts interferes with the computer and results in a slower shift. I have paid close attention since picking the car up and the shift quality has improved as the miles roll up. It shifts like a normal, manual transmission. Not fast, but for sure not slow

I have come to the same conclusion. I run mine in auto as well.

Auto for the most part. As I posted somewhere else, I'll switch to manual if there's an interesting bit of road.

I never use auto mode and generaly shift at medium rpm around town. I pin the revs and go WFO getting on the freeway...

hot rod

I drive with the tach..... 3-5k shift manually ......never use auto(my music is always on)
but have been experimenting with the "shift and lift" works real well to eliminate the forward/back porpoising <SP>? when shifting.

Early Engine Failure.

In "D" the premature shift into 5th drives me up the wall.

Little, fast turning engines do not like to be lugged.

I predict a lot of early engine failures in cars with heavy "D" use.

Ours is a work car with 4k on the ode. I use stick in town "D" on the road. Wife uses "D" more than I.

We will see what we have at around 40-50k on the ode.

A2Jack.
