Oh, yeah, and I agree with Suze, even though I only drove the car for five minutes a year ago... as the car slowed down, I don't remember it dropping into 1st until/unless the car was almost stopped. If your car is moving faster than 5 MPH I don't see any good reason it would drop to 1st, and DEFINITELY doesn't sound like it should go 2-1 as you try to go 2-3. Sounds like a buggy transmission...

Wow, I wasn't able to get on here since I posted until now, and am sure glad I posted! Opened up a big ol can of worms!

The downshift to 1st when I was trying to upshift to 3rd only happened once that I know of. Problem is, it acts fine 80% of time, so when it does it, I'm usually not paying that much attention, just driving/doing my thing, and the next thing I know the car lurches a bit and I can hear it revving high, and I look down to see that it's flashing 1, up arrow, 1, etc. So I'm going to go a while more before I worry too much about it. Going to try the shifting without lifting at all and see how that goes. I never believed that the car learns the driver's style, but starting to think maybe it does and I've trained the darned thing wrong and that's why it seems to be happening more.???

Also, we're going to try to make the Louisville Smart Rally coming up and if I'm still having problems with it, I'll ask a tech then or maybe even have an appt scheduled. In the meantime, I'll hang out and experiment.

I will say that I have noticed that auto mode seems to shift MUCH smoother if I lift just before I know it will shift, or even SEEMS like my lifting prompts it to shift many times; however, I don't use auto very often. I like my manual, and I like the stick.
