$1200 is cheap!! Covered, insured transport door to door will cost you $1700 - $2400. Intercity transport is good although I have never used them I have seen and heard their name used in good circles. Good Luck!!!

I shipped a 450 from Seattle to LA last year. Used a broker off the internet. I went very well for $600, 2 days in transit, door to door. Be there when it arrives for final inspection. I had to leave it with a friend for pick up. Good Luck!

I've used Intercity on several occasions and they are the best.

FedEx Custom Critical Passport Auto Transport | Enclosed Vehicle Transport | Auto Shipping . Don't know the cost, but I do know that the service and protection of the vehicle is first-rate.

Have used Intercity Lines... the best

Have moved many autos using Intercity Lines of Ma in the past. These guys are by far the best. Used COVERED transports, their own trucks and drivers ( many others use contract rigs). You can rest assured that your Smart will arrive in the same condition it was in when picked up. Check out their web site at

Worth exploring this method

A low cost and terribly inconvenient way may be to space available it on Bekins or other households goods moving companies... if they will accept a dinky car

What some moving companies like MayFlower do, is offer a motorcycle moving service Ware house to Ware house at low cost on a space available method

I sent my Bike cross country this way for $189 a few years back

They do not guarantee any specific delivery schedule but claim generally a week from any where to any where

You have to drop it off at a ware house and pick up from a ware house

I sent mine from Tacoma WA to Orlando Fl for bike week..I sent it 10 days early and it was there when I flew in. Relativly inexpensive and I did not have to drive it 2600 miles. I was going to reverse the process but got an offer too good to pass up so sold her there and flew home

When I moved from Charlotte to Chicago, Paul Arpin Movers carried my Porsche in the back of the moving van. That might be worth looking in to as said in an earlier post. ABF might be a good one to call also.

Then you have the "seasoned drivers" travelling programs, where one would have a car delivered long distance in exchange for travelling expenses.
I used to look for the snowbirds bi-annual migrations between the NE and Florida to find cars to be driven along the eastern coast.
Usually retired people would do it if the owner would pay a token daily expenditure fee that would cover hotel and meals, plus gas and toll fees of course. Some of those program are even bonded. A win-win solution for elder travellers who wish not to pay their own transportation.
